Jay was raised in an independent Baptist preacher's home and was saved when he was 8 years old. He has been leading worship and teaching Sunday School classes since his early teens and preaching since age 17. He has been married for 27 years to Laurie, the daughter of a preacher. They have 2 daughters (Suzanne and Julianne) and 1 dog (Madison).  They have made their home in the Birmingham area for more than 25 years.

In May of 1995 Jay received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on Pastoral Theology from Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama. He completed the Master of Divinity program in May of 2000 at Beeson Divinity School, Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

He has served in a bi-vocational capacity in most of his ministries.  He was Dean of Students at Southeastern Bible College from 1997-1999 and has served in different capacities at SEBC since 1999.  He is now serving as College Pastor.  He was Pastor of Brook Highland Community Church, from 1998-2002 and has been pastor here at OGBC sence April 2002. Nancy joined our family on May 7, 2000 as our pianist. She was, however not new to Oak Grove.  Her family has a long history with the Church.  Her Dad (Rev. William H. Collins) was the pastor here at Oak Grove for over 20 years.  Her Mother (Nancy Collins) was involved in different areas of church life and was a member of the Oak Grove Trio.

Nancy’s sister (Diane Hosey) was our pianist and Nancy was our  organist. 

Nancy is married to Rod Cain and they have three kids. Roger, (Rod's son from a previous marriage, Anthony and Jennifer.
